photos from nyc
The big apple. The real holy land. My #1 city. I spent 3 days in Manhatten, seeing what most tourists see, walking up and down the entire island, going to art galleries, checking out coffee bars, eating great food (and after spending a summer cooking for myself, this food is like honey-on-vanilla-ice-cream good), and soaking up the sights that I've waiting years to see. Now, on to the show.
I took a total of 430 photos in both NYC and Israel. I narrowed the NYC photos down to 95 total photos that I liked. I then whittled those 95 down to 22 photos. So here you have it. Enjoy the show.

As first impressions go, while the quality of this photo might not be up to par, the awesomeness of a huge building sure was. This is the apartment I stayed in for the 3 days. It has 44 floors (42 visible, 2 underground). I stayed on the 16th floor, in room 16J, which my mother's friend from the Ukraine.

First place I headed to was Times Square, where the Virgin logo is large and demanded and holds a lumenescent intensity. What would a New York City scrapbook be without this photo? Also shown is a colorful LOEWS advertisement.

Spider-Man is back, and in beer-gut form!

This is the dividing fence on the median between the two roads, right outside of MTV Land.

My first advertisement. I did the whole half-taxi-half-glare-half-stupid-ad photo that all amateurs do at some point in their life. I made it a point to do the reflection just right. You'll notice that the cross-walk lines up, both in and out of the ad.

You'll soon notice that I love architecture, and I have taken many photos of great builds in the city. Here is a definitely unique building. As is the next one.

Reminds me of legos.

On the second day, I met up with Chrissy. She took a 3 hour train ride up from Baltimore.

This makes the perfect desktop wallpaper. Click on the image to get a full-size picture, a resolution of 2048x1536!

I love markets. I also have a really neat picture of a whole slew of cherries. And of course another one, full-panarama of the market.

I have a bunch of pictures of the Guggenheim. These two are my favorites. I was thinking about including a third that has the corner of the building sticking out (ok, it's a circle, so not really a corner), but you can only see a few feet of it. It just sticks out of the neighborhood, with all of the other buildings in the picture. You can see it here.
By the way, this picture above makes the perfect desktop wallpaper. Just click on it to download the full version.

This is an artistic shot. I like it, and so should you. I stole the idea from a postcard.

A cool shot of the Natural History Museum, with loads of taxis out front.

One of the many art galleries. These are the artists that they holds works of. I also chose this shot because it has my reflection in the window. It's nice to see how some of these are done sometimes. There I am, with my messenger bag and courderoys. Look carefully and you can see my iPod.

Another great desktop wallpaper. This is the ceiling at the Whitney Museum of Contemporary American Art. I saw quite a few paintings that I have been studying. It was nice to see Charles Demuth's My Egypt in person.

This is the only building-reflection piece I'm going to subject you to. While I love it, especially when the reflected building comes out wavy and water-like, these are becomming tacky and overused. It's a cliche print, I know, but I likes it. And I am aware that the sun is casting the entire sky white, but that's what makes it neat, to feel the warmth of the sun in this cold city (even though it was a nice 75 degrees all 3 days).
However, being a digital camera, I could take that into account when I shot the photo. Notice on the other side of the building, you can see clouds and blue sky. Yes, that's what completes this photo. One of my favorites.

Giant objects always amuse me. I hear that everything is bigger in Texas. I had to wait quite a few minutes until somebody walked by it, so I could get some scale into the photo. Also notice that the New York Public Library is on the left. Yes, of the 430 photos, 95 of them being good NYC photos, I took at least 12 photos of libraries. That's what working there does to you.

A really neat building. Notice you can see underneath it. Here's the underside of the building in perspective. While the linked image is not strikingly beautiful in terms of composition, it deserves at least a link.

This photo made the cover page of conesus.com.

Another artistic shot. It's odd, something I have never and will never see in either my city or any other. It's really beautiful. I just love the way the cabbie is standing there, looking austere. I wish he also had a ciggarette in his hand, because that would define the city just a little bit clearer. There's no indoor smoking, as you probably already know. So while there are smokers in the city, they have to be the most shat-upon group. Worse than the hobos. You could be smoking a ciggarette outside of a bar, and a hobo rolls over from his filth and tells you to put that disgusting butt out. It's borders upon completely deranged and silly.

Yup, Vans is representing in the art-world. I liked what I saw. The taxies didn't hurt either.

And so that concludes our trip around the tiny island. This is a final apartment shot, complete with rat-birds. Also makes a perfect desktop wallpaper.
If you're still reading, I'll let you know that I took a 2 week trip, the first 3 days of which were spent in New York City. I then got onto a train and went down to New Jersey to catch a flight over to Tel Aviv, Israel. If you want to see some more shots, then follow me over to my Israel Photos. |
